The best things to do in Savannah with a group of friends are a horse drawn carriage ride through the Historic District, a guided tour of the 1819 Owens Thomas House, long Southern dinners at The Olde Pink House and The Grey, and a slow walk through the squares to the fountain in Forsyth Park. Go in spring, March to May, or in October and November, when the afternoons are warm and the evenings are cool enough to walk to dinner.
Our handbook puts it in one line: mossy squares and old homes, made for a slow walk.
When is the best time to visit Savannah?
March to May, and October to November. NOAA's 30 year averages for the Savannah airport station put the average high at 71 degrees in March, 78 in April and 85 in May, then 79 in October and 70 in November.
Summer is hot and wet. July averages 92 degrees, and June, July and August bring the most rain of the year. If you go then, do the outdoor things before noon. Winter is mild, with highs from 61 to 65, and City Market puts on holiday events in December.
